Sculptural Cat II

Sometimes the strongest artwork is created with the fewest lines. Sculptural Cat II continues Chris Berry’s exploration into what he calls Sculptural Ink Minimalism—an artistic style that strips away unnecessary detail to reveal only movement, balance and form. Created during the first UK lockdown in 2020, this piece was never intended to become a finished artwork. It was one of dozens of experimental drawings produced while searching for the perfect fox logo for a client. Hours became days as circles, curves and intersecting lines slowly evolved into abstract studies of animals, each teaching a new lesson in composition and restraint. This elegant cat became one of the defining moments in that journey. Unlike a traditional sketch, every line has purpose. Thick and delicate strokes weave together to create depth, while translucent construction lines remain visible, revealing the thought process behind the artwork. The flowing tail wraps naturally around the composition, creating balance and guiding the eye through the piece without distraction. The result is both technical and emotional. The monochrome palette allows the geometry to take centre stage, making Sculptural Cat II equally at home in contemporary interiors, creative workspaces, minimalist homes and modern gallery walls. It rewards closer inspection, with new shapes and subtle details emerging every time you look. Although born from a logo project, this artwork became something far more personal—a reminder that creativity often appears when you stop chasing the answer and simply enjoy the process.
